Before you can create a match schedule, you have to decide on the tournament format. On the Format page you decide how the teams will compete. There are three types of competitions, which allow you to create any possible format:
Group: A competition in which each team plays against each other team in the same group once or twice.
Bracket: A knockout, in which two teams play head to head. The winning team proceeds to the next round, the losing team is out. However, even in a bracket there are options for losing teams to play against each other.
Single match: A single match between two teams.
If you create a new tournament and have no format yet, you can choose between three formats that are frequently used. You can decide to go with only a group stage (one or multiple groups), only a knockout stage (one bracket) or a combination of those two. In the latter, teams compete in different groups first and the best teams of each group proceed to the bracket in the knockout stage.
You can create multiple phases if teams need to proceed in the tournament based on their achievements in earlier phases.
After your format is created, you need to fill up all the empty spots on this page. You do this by clicking on the empty spot and assign teams to the spots in the first phase. Make sure to also fill up the empty spots in subsequent phases, as you need to decide how teams proceed to the next phase. Tournify will use these references to place the teams in the next phase when the results of the previous phase are in.
